Fish 'n' chips (by Joe)

The British connection shows in so many ways in Australia and NZ.

For example you have the language, the sports, the place names, and you even see the Queen's head on notes and coins (apologies, but it really DOES seem rather bizarre that the Queen remains head of state here).
However, for me, perhaps the most surprising evidence of the British connection is the popularity of traditional (battered) fish and chips (with mushy peas!!).
... but then when you have the rich fishing grounds of the southern Ocean off your coast, why not?
Very nice too - it's good, cheap, filling backpacker grub. I've been tucking in (see top).
